Jeanie Ruben-Hooper was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. At the age of 12, she volunteered at a homeless shelter to help families locate their loved ones after Hurricane Katrina. Her interest in psychology was piqued during this experience. As part of her volunteer responsibilities, she engaged in conversations with the residents in the hopes of encouraging them to provide more information necessary to help them reunite with family members and obtain further aid.
Jeanie studied Biology at Southern Arkansas University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Science and a minor in psychology. She also studied Positive Psychology at Life University, where she received her Master of Science. Currently, Jeanie is attending Capella University pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Psychology. As a dedicated Clinical Psychology Intern, Jeanie is committed to providing compassionate and evidence-based psychology care to individuals across all age groups. Her passion lies in helping others, and she has assessed, diagnosed, and provided psychotherapy to patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disabilities, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Behavior Issues (Self-harm), Trauma, Adjustment Disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder, among others. She has a solid foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Currently, under the supervision of Dr. Betty Eitel, Ph.D at DFW Psychological, she is honing her clinical skills through ongoing education and clinical experience to make a meaningful difference in the lives of her clients.
Previously, Jeanie worked at TrueCore Behavioral Solutions, a behavior treatment provider for adolescents in Florida. She was a science teacher for two years. Jeanie has been working at the Autism Treatment Center as the behavior coordinator for four years, which covers the full population from children to adults. She also volunteers at different schools, talking to children and adolescents about self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities. In her free time, Jeanie enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, on the water, and listening to music. Most importantly, she keeps God first with every decision she makes.
